At the end of Gunslingers, the story culminates in a tense showdown between the brotherly figures Thomas and Robert Keller. Thomas, who had been on the run after a violent confrontation in New York, is revealed to be the man with the highest bounty in American history, hiding in the town of Redemption, where all the residents are wanted criminals pretending to be dead. Robert, driven by a mixture of revenge, obligation, and guilt, comes to find his brother, blaming him for the chaos that followed their failed deal with the mafia and for the fact that his wife Val, who had secretly left her own husband Robert for Thomas, is actually the mother of Thomas’s child, Grace. When Thomas and Robert finally face each other, Robert reveals that he is willing to kill Thomas to protect his own life, but Thomas, knowing that Robert would kill Grace if given the chance, shoots and kills his brother to prevent that from happening. Thomas’s decision is heartbreaking but necessary; he recognizes that Robert’s vengefulness has made him too dangerous to keep alive, especially since he poses a threat to Grace. The climax underscores the tragic nature of their rivalry—brothers torn apart by violence, loyalty, and the past.

In the mid-credits scene, the aftermath shows that Jericho’s gang and Thomas’s allies have dealt with the treacherous mole who betrayed them. The traitor, after claiming the bounty, is ultimately killed for his treachery. Meanwhile, the character Ben, played by Nicolas Cage, who appeared mentally unstable but fought fiercely in the final shootout, finally joins the fray with a fierce shot, revealing that he was a loyal member all along, despite his odd behavior. The film ends with Thomas and Val presumed to be alive and free, having successfully disappeared from the chaos they escaped, leaving behind a tale of brotherly conflict, survival, and the harsh realities of a life on the run. The ending leaves a bittersweet note: justice has been served, but at a great personal cost, and the story of the gunslingers concludes with a sense of sacrifice and unresolved familial wounds.
