In 1955, Henry Hill is drawn into the rackets by Paulie Cicero in East New York. He becomes a local fence for Jimmy and begins learning the rhythms of the rackets, quietly climbing toward riskier schemes.

During the 1960s, Henry, Jimmy, and Tommy pull off high-stakes thefts—carjackings, hijackings of cargo trucks, and the Air France robbery. They revel in the glamour of success and often celebrate at the Copacabana.

Henry falls for Karen Friedman, a Jewish woman who is curious about his dangerous world. Her fascination grows as he brings glamour into their life, and despite her parents' warnings, she marries him, stepping into the lifestyle he leads.

In 1970, Billy Batts, a made man, offends Tommy at a nightclub and is brutally beaten and killed by Tommy and Jimmy. Fearing retribution, they dismember the body and bury it in Upstate New York.

Months later, development threatens the burial site, forcing them to exhume and relocate Batts' body. The crime continues to haunt the crew and reverberate through their operations.

By 1974, Karen confronts Henry and his mistress Janice, testing the marriage while Paulie's debt collection in Tampa pulls the trio back into the fold. The lines between family, loyalty, and crime blur as tensions rise.

Henry and Jimmy are arrested after a tip-off from a gambler's sister, and both receive ten-year sentences. The arrest marks the beginning of the end for their era of rampant crime.

Paroled in 1978, Henry returns to narcotics and teams with Jimmy for the Lufthansa vault heist at JFK, a six-million-dollar score. The crew splurges on items, the getaway plan collapses, and a brutal purge follows.

The Lufthansa aftermath heightens Henry's Pittsburgh connections as most of the crew is eliminated and Tommy nears a dangerous initiation into becoming a made man. The changes redefine who runs the operation.

Tommy arrives at the initiation only to be killed as retribution for Batts’ murder, a brutal reminder that the underworld enforces its own penalties. Henry watches the consequences of loyalty and violence close in on him.

By 1980, cocaine use and constant danger leave Henry a jittery shell. Narcotics agents arrest him, and Karen flushes roughly $60,000 worth of cocaine down the toilet to hide evidence from the FBI.

Paulie cuts ties and Henry reluctantly agrees to a hit, but senses he will be killed. He instead becomes an informant, cooperates with authorities, and enrolls his family in witness protection to start anew.

Hidden away in an undisclosed neighborhood, Henry reflects on leaving the life behind. He confronts the sense of loss and the brutal self-exile that defines his new existence.

In a quiet confession, Henry admits that the thrill of danger once defined him, but the mundane life of witness protection leaves him unhappy—a stark contrast to the life he chased as a young gangster.
