As the summer sun begins to shine, Dexter Reed, a slacker in high school, takes advantage of the warm season by borrowing his mother's car. Eager to enjoy his freedom, he embarks on a joyride, igniting a series of events that will change his summer.

Dexter's carefree day takes an unexpected turn when he accidentally collides with his strict yet fair teacher, Mr. Wheat. This minor car accident leaves both shaken and puts Dexter in a precarious position due to his lack of a valid driver’s license and insurance.

Faced with a potentially serious situation, Dexter is offered a deal by Mr. Wheat. If Dexter can pay for the damages, which start at $1,900, he can avoid jail time, presenting Dexter with a daunting financial challenge.

To settle his debt, Dexter embarks on a quest for a summer job that will help him generate enough money. His pursuit of employment leads him to a chaotic encounter at a new fast-food place called Mondo Burger.

After a tumultuous stint at Mondo Burger, Dexter finds his way to Good Burger, where he meets Ed, a lovable and somewhat naive cashier. This encounter marks the beginning of their partnership and a series of unexpected events.

While working together at Good Burger, Dexter uncovers a startling realization: Ed's clumsiness was the cause of the accident that changed Dexter's summer. Initially frustrated, Dexter begins to rethink his feelings towards Ed.

As they settle into their new jobs, the competition from Mondo Burger heats up due to its popularity and large burgers. Determined to compete, Dexter and Ed decide to introduce Ed's special sauce to boost sales at Good Burger.

Dexter's plan works beyond his expectations, leading to a surge in sales. However, he takes advantage of Ed’s trusting nature and persuades him to sign a contract granting Dexter an overwhelming 80% cut of the profits from the secret sauce.

Kurt Bozwell, the owner of Mondo Burger, becomes envious of Good Burger's success and attempts to sabotage it. He sends his employee Roxanne to charm Dexter into revealing the recipe for Ed's sauce.

After a disastrous double date with Ed, Monique, another coworker, discovers the exploitative contract Dexter has with Ed. She confronts Dexter, urging him to reconsider his actions and causing him to feel guilty about his betrayal.

Dexter and Ed encounter a stray dog that refuses Mondo Burger, leading them to an alarming discovery about the food served there. They sneak into the Mondo Burger kitchen, where they uncover that the burgers are tainted with an illegal additive called Triampathol.

Kurt learns about Ed and Dexter's discovery and locks them in the Demented Hills Asylum to silence them. While trapped, they realize they must escape to prevent Kurt's dangerous scheme from succeeding.

Ed and Dexter devise a thrilling escape plan and commandeer an ice cream truck to race back to Good Burger. As their pursuers chase them, Ed cleverly uses ice cream projectiles to hinder their pursuers, showcasing their teamwork.

Upon arriving back at Good Burger, Dexter and Ed confront Kurt and manage to thwart his malicious plan to poison their food. This time, they work together to ensure the safety of their customers and the integrity of their restaurant.

During a climactic showdown at Mondo Burger, Dexter distracts Kurt while Ed sabotages the burger machine with Triampathol. The resulting explosion not only destroys Mondo Burger but also leads to Kurt's arrest for his crimes.

After the chaos, Dexter reconciles with Ed, ensuring he receives a proper share of the profits. Celebrated as heroes by their coworkers, Dexter and Ed affirm their friendship and the success of Good Burger.
