Drama

A Soviet “proletarian” drama set in 1914 St Petersburg depicts a factory strike against the war. Naïve village boy Poslavsky takes a scab job at a large metallurgical plant, where Bolshevik organizers led by Ivan Shtraukh (brother of actor Maxim Shtraukh) direct the workers. The deceitful industrialist’s son Fedosev recruits Poslavsky to murder Shtraukh, but the attempt only wounds him. The film follows Poslavsky’s struggle to abandon the plot and side with the strikers, echoing Pudovkin’s End of St Petersburg.
