God’s Little Acre

Ty Ty Walden, a widower farmer, has spent 15 years digging for his grandfather's treasure, leaving the farm neglected and the family strained. His relentless pursuit casts a shadow over every decision and drains the land of productive work. The quest for gold defines the family dynamic from the start.

Pluto Swint arrives in the backwoods to announce his bid for sheriff. He encounters Darlin' Jill as she bathes in an outdoor tub and, while pretending to avert attention, steals a quick peek, hinting at trouble ahead. Her teasing foreshadows further temptations and danger.

Dawson uses a divining rod to locate gold, and Ty Ty abducts him in the belief that his albinism will bring luck. Dawson identifies the site on Ty Ty's land and Ty Ty moves the marker to a new spot called God's Little Acre, claiming divine instruction. The marker change allows Ty Ty to keep any treasure for himself.

Darlin' Jill seduces the albino Dawson, complicating the treasure hunt and drawing more attention to the dig. The next day, Uncle Felix chases Dawson away at gunpoint, declaring that he won't shoot him, but the gun might.

Desperate for funds to finance the digging, Ty Ty visits his son Jim Leslie in Augusta and receives a loan. Jim Leslie is arrogant and attempts to seduce Griselda, vowing to make her his own.

In Peachtree Valley, the closed cotton mill becomes the focus of unrest as Will resolves to restore work by reactivating the power. At night he breaks into the mill gates; Griselda distracts him, they kiss, then disappear, and he returns to the gates as the crowd watches the machines come alive, cheering.

Hearing the riot and the return of power, the caretaker emerges from his office and shoots Will for trespassing. The crowd carries Will's body back to his house as the town reels from the tragedy.

Will's funeral triggers renewed squabbles among the Walden family, with Buck resenting Griselda's conduct at the mill. Ty Ty counsels Buck to seek happiness and to focus on God, trying to hold the family together.

Jim Leslie arrives to seize Griselda, reigniting the feud. Buck fights him, and Jim strikes Ty Ty with a porch rung. Buck intervenes and fatally impales Jim Leslie on a pitchfork to prevent further violence.

After the brutal events, Ty Ty surveys the scarred farmland and contemplates giving up the treasure quest. He declares he will stop if God will protect his sons, turning the land into a test of faith and family.

Time passes and Pluto Swint is elected sheriff, signaling a new order in the town. Darlin' Jill becomes his fiancée, aligning the family with the local power structure and hinting at lasting change.

Buck and Griselda repair their relationship, giving each other more attention as the family resumes farming. The fields are tilled again and a sense of normalcy returns, even amid lingering scars.

Ty Ty finds the blade of an old shovel in the ground, reigniting the fantasy that gold might lie beneath the soil. He wonders if the treasure remains on the land and whether the digging will ever truly end.

The film closes with a panoramic view of the pond where the marker for God's Little Acre once stood. Ty Ty gazes over his fields and the family, choosing faith and labor over greed, as the treasure remains elusive. The peaceful image suggests the Walden family endures despite the myth of wealth.
