From a Tang‑Dynasty fantasy, the film favors romance over horror as scholar Chan stays in a mansion where villagers fall into a well. He looks inside and meets ghost Susu, who leapt to escape bandits. Du Long orders her to harm Chan, but she cannot. Chan retrieves a mirror, frees Susu; in their clash she and Du Long kill each other, saving Chan.
