On a sunlit day in a Kayseri village, the youngest of four brothers, Saffet, struggles to push the old plough through stubborn soil. After he flags, the others rally to his side, and in a moment of cautious digging, they uncover an ancient pot buried beneath the earth. The pot shatters against a tree trunk, and the sunlit shards reveal a trove of gold coins hidden inside. What begins as a shared breath of luck quickly spirals into a temptation they cannot ignore.
Excitement washes over the group as they imagine their sudden wealth, but they realize they will need a trusted, stable way to turn the treasure into real currency. They turn to their fellow townsman, Ali Rıza, who runs a jewelry shop in Ankara, hoping he can manage the exchange safely. The plan hinges on trust, and the brothers’ eagerness is quickly tempered by a creeping fear: what if one of them tries to keep the whole prize for himself and leave the others with nothing?
To protect the treasure, they keep a large sack close, carrying it wherever they go and even when they sit down to eat. The sack becomes a symbol of both possible fortune and growing suspicion among the brothers. The journey to Ankara is supposed to be smooth, but fate has other plans: on the day they arrive, the city is alive with a holiday, and Ali Rıza’s shop is closed until the festivities end. Disappointed but not defeated, the four men scrape by with odd jobs, digging and doing small tasks to survive while they wait for the shop to reopen.
When Ali Rıza finally returns, the sight of the coins convinces him that there is more treasure to be found, and he uses a polite, patient approach to coax information about the coins’ whereabouts. Meanwhile, the brothers become increasingly protective of the sack, guarding it during meals and while they sleep. The tension between sharing and secrecy grows, and the idea of exchanging the gold for real money becomes a test of loyalty among them.
As the plan to exchange the coins inches forward, the brothers decide to bury the treasure to keep it hidden from Ali Rıza. But in a crucial moment, Gayret reveals a secret he has overheard, stoking a fierce struggle among everyone who wants a piece of the gold. A chaotic confrontation erupts, and the coins tumble down a building site under construction, scattering in the dirt and concrete.
In the end, the long-awaited treasure proves too heavy a burden for the four brothers. Their hard-won windfall dissolves into thin air, and they are left poorer than before, returning to the field to toil once again. The tale closes on a note of quiet realism: wealth promised by luck is fragile, and unity among friends can fray under the weight of greed and suspicion.
