Mila, Emilia Schüle, Hanna, Selina Shirin Müller, and Kati, Henriette Nagel, are best friends at fourteen who would do anything for each other. They hatch a plan to boost Mila’s grades by coordinating with their teachers, a scheme that tugs at the edges of their school life and their private hopes. The girls’ crushes complicate everything: Kati adores “Sandwich”-Tobi, a boy who always seems to be eating, but never notices her the way she wishes; she also finds herself drawn to Florian, Axel Kellermann — her cousin who stirs her feelings in a very different way. Hanna starts dating Branko, Ben Unterkofler, a few years older, while Mila wrestles with a quiet longing of her own.

Mila’s world shifts when she meets Pit Winter, David Rott, a trainee teacher who temporarily steps in for her pregnant German instructor. Mila writes an anonymous love poem for him, hoping to bridge the gap between admiration and affection. But when Mila learns that her mother has a dinner date with Pit, her fragile hope becomes tangled with jealousy and fear. The next morning, Markus, Jonathan Beck, appears at the station and takes Mila to his father’s riding school. When Mila sees a class trip photo beside a statue of Pegasus and notices a picture of herself with Markus, she realizes Markus must be the Pegasus figure she’s been sensing. This realization helps Mila see her situation more clearly, and she returns home to a surprising moment of warmth: her mother confirms the pregnancy test was a false alarm, and she suggests Mila will find a good partner who appreciates her for who she is. With this new clarity, Mila drives back to the riding school with her mother, where she finds Markus on a hill that holds personal meaning, and the two share a kiss, signaling a hopeful turn.

In the end, happiness feels achievable for everyone. Kati, who had once pursued Brian with a hopeful heart, watches as he falls for Vanessa, Christina Peifer, and leaves his concert with a heavy heart. Back on the street, a drinker’s aggression is thwarted when a nearby ally steps in, and Kati, in a fit of resilience, begins to feel drawn to Branko once more, hinting at a fresh start rather than an exit. Hanna travels to Munich for the casting show and reaches the quarterfinals; just before her next performance, her talisman—a heart given by Branko—begins to glow. The two hearts react to each other’s presence, and in a touching twist they find each other again after Hanna’s elimination, reaffirming that love and friendship can endure even when obstacles appear.
