Fearless Fagan

Floyd is a circus clown who has raised Fagan since he was a cub, blending humor with affectionate care. When he learns he is a draft dodger, he chooses to enlist to avoid jail, but his primary motive remains keeping Fagan by his side. He is impulsive and stubborn, yet deeply loyal and capable of tenderness, especially toward Abbey. His courage is tested as he hides the lion on base and faces the consequences of duty, friendship, and love.

Abbey is a troupe entertainer who stumbles upon Floyd and Fagan in the woods. She promises to keep the lion's presence secret, showing both curiosity and compassion. Her feelings for Floyd develop into a tentative romance, even as she suspects he is different. Her choices to help Floyd and Fagan propel the story toward its resolution.
