Farhana

Farhana, Aishwarya Rajesh, is a middle-class homemaker in Chennai who shares a small, crowded home with her father Ajeez, her husband Kareem Jithan Ramesh, and their three children. The family runs a modest shoe shop that rarely brings in enough money to cover even the basics, leaving them perpetually short of funds and under strain as they juggle bills, schooling, and everyday needs. To ease the financial pressure, Farhana takes on a job at a bank’s call center, hoping the extra income will translate into some relief for the mounting bills and anxious nights.

When their youngest child Nabha is hospitalized, the family’s expenses spike further, and Farhana is forced to stretch every rupee. She notices that her friend and colleague Nithya earns significant incentives after switching to a different department, a role that happens to be a “friendship” chat line where women workers engage in conversations with male callers. The prospect of bigger earnings tempts Farhana, and she decides to shift to the same department, even though the work involves sexually explicit conversations that shock and disgust her at first. The lure of better pay clashes with her sense of propriety and the nagging worry about how it might affect her dignity and family life, and she wrestles with whether the money is worth the moral cost.

One day, an anonymous caller begins speaking to her in a respectful, almost soothing tone. He treats her with kindness and she responds in kind, feeling an unfamiliar warmth. What starts as a cautious exchange soon becomes a near-daily conversation, and the caller introduces himself as Dhayalan. As their chats continue, Farhana finds herself drawn to the persona behind the voice, and a complicated attraction begins to take shape. Yet the friendship remains fragile, and when Dhayalan abruptly stops calling, Farhana is left unsettled and confused, wondering what went wrong and whether she misread his interest.

Dhayalan resumes the calls, and Farhana finally confesses her feelings, opening up about the emotional pull she feels toward him. He asks to meet the next day, but the plan collides with an important cultural observance—Eid—and she hesitates, torn between personal desire and professional boundaries. In a moment of impulse, she agrees to meet him later, choosing to ignore the company’s strict protocol about meeting clients. The choice weighs heavily on her conscience, and a second, more troubling thought surfaces: Sofia, a late friend and colleague whose careless death haunts Farhana and adds to the pressure she feels to protect herself and her family.

The situation takes a dangerous turn as Dhayalan begins to pressure Farhana, signaling that he has access to their recorded conversations and could share them with Kareem. He uses the threat to coerce love and a future marriage, and Farhana, exhausted and frightened, resolves to push back. She enlists the support of Nithya and Prithvi, a coworker who has a crush on her, in a bid to uncover Dhayalan’s movements and put an end to the intimidation. The search initially falters, testing Farhana’s resolve and her allies’ trust, but she refuses to surrender to fear and refuses to let the situation define her.

Truth-telling matters come into sharp focus when Farhana confesses everything to Kareem. He listens with calm, unwavering support, acknowledging the pain she has endured and affirming his love and commitment. Kareem’s steadfast presence convinces Farhana that she does not have to face this danger alone, and together they chart a course to regain control of their lives. They decide to confront Dhayalan and bring the situation to a formal resolution, trusting that law and order will restore safety and dignity.

The confrontation unfolds at Dhayalan’s doorstep, where a humiliating mistake by the troubled man—he misidentifies another woman as Isha and is rebuked in the process—underscores the fragility of his hold over Farhana. Before the moment can escalate, Kareem and the police arrive to arrest Dhayalan, ending the taunting harassment once and for all. The immediate danger passes, and with the threat neutralized, Farhana makes a new choice for herself: she returns to her previous role at the bank call center, this time with a renewed sense of purpose and security. In the afterward of this ordeal, she finds contentment and a stronger sense of agency, knowing that she has reclaimed her life and rebuilt her family’s balance with resilience and mutual support.
