Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance

The Third Angel breaks free from its confinement at NERV's Arctic stronghold, Bethany Base. This event sets off a chain reaction leading to the introduction of a new pilot, Mari Illustrious Makinami.

Mari, commanding the Evangelion Provisional Unit-05, confronts the rogue Third Angel. To thwart the threat, she executes a self-destruct sequence, making a daring escape just in time.

Shinji and Gendo visit the grave of Yui, a poignant moment of reflection as they both cherish her memory. Their solemnity is shattered by the arrival of the Seventh Angel which soon meets its end.

The Seventh Angel's sudden appearance prompts Asuka, piloting Evangelion Unit-02, to engage it with unyielding resolve. The Angel is swiftly eliminated, showcasing Asuka's formidable skills as a pilot.

Ryoji Kaji presents Gendo with a mysterious suitcase containing the enigmatic 'Key of Nebuchadnezzar.' He cryptically notes that the destruction of Unit-05 had proceeded exactly as anticipated, leaving Gendo contemplative.

Gendo and Kozo Fuyutsuki visit NERV's lunar compound, Tabgha Base, where they see the development of Evangelion Mark.06. However, their attempt to land is thwarted, and they encounter Kaworu drifting in space.

While Gendo is away, the Eighth Angel launches a surprise attack on Tokyo-3. Shinji, Asuka, and Rei rush to devise a counter-strategy, underscoring the urgent need for teamwork against the growing threats.

Upon returning, Gendo urges SEELE to expedite repairs on both Unit-00 and Unit-01. SEELE agrees to work solely on Unit-01, neglecting Unit-00, further straining the relationship between Gendo and Shinji.

In an effort to mend the rift with Gendo, Rei organizes a heartfelt dinner gathering. Meanwhile, Mari arrives in Tokyo-3, laying the groundwork for future developments in the unfolding narrative.

An unfortunate incident at NERV's U.S. branch results in the loss of Unit-04. Consequently, the U.S. government sends Unit-03 to Tokyo-3, impacting the operational capacity of NERV's units.

To ensure the success of Rei's dinner party, Asuka takes the pilot seat of Unit-03 during a crucial test. However, the situation escalates as Unit-03 becomes possessed by the Ninth Angel, leading to chaos.

Struggling with the decision to engage his possessed friend Asuka, Shinji hesitates to pilot Unit-01. Gendo orders the activation of the Dummy System, leading to catastrophic destruction of Unit-03.

After the emotional turmoil of the battle, Shinji flees NERV, overwhelmed by his father's cold directives. This departure leaves a significant rift and uncertainty in the narrative, propelling the story forward.

While escaping the city, Shinji encounters the Tenth Angel, forcing him into an emergency shelter. Meanwhile, Mari takes command of Unit-02 to confront this new threat with fierce determination.

In a climactic showdown, Shinji returns to the battlefield to rescue Rei from the Tenth Angel. Using the raw power of Unit-01, he engages the Angel, ultimately achieving a miraculous victory but not without cost.
