Eternity

During the gender reveal party, Larry chokes on a pretzel and dies suddenly. The moment is chaotic and the family struggles to process his unexpected death. Behind the scenes, Joan's secret illness remains unspoken as the gathering continues.

Larry awakens on a train in the afterlife and discovers he must choose where to spend eternity. He meets Anna, his Afterlife Coordinator, who explains that each Eternity has a unique theme and that escape to the Void is forbidden. He resolves to await Joan at the Junction.

Joan succumbs to cancer and arrives at the Junction as a young woman. She is reunited with Larry, and Anna's AC Ryan arrives with Luke, who reveals he has waited for her at the Junction for 67 years. The three prepare for Joan's decision about which Eternity to choose.

Because of her special circumstances, Joan is allowed to sample two Eternities—one with Larry and one with Luke—before making her final decision. She begins with a mountain wilderness Eternity alongside Luke, and they watch a life together in the Archives. Luke grows uneasy as he sees Larry's old proposal noted in their shared memory.

Joan and Luke visit an Archives in their mountain Eternity, watching moments from their lives together. Luke becomes upset when he sees Larry's old proposal to Joan at their wartime dock. The memory shows how their love began and how it evolved.

Joan then visits a beach-inspired Eternity with Larry, who declines to enter the Archives and revisit their shared history. They have comfort and tenderness, but the absence of the future weighs on Joan. The Eternity underscores the contrast between youthful romance and lasting life together.

Luke shows Joan a letter Larry had written specifying a single Eternity where he would wait for her. She compares it to Luke's 67 years of devotion, causing her further doubt about where to spend eternity. They discuss the tradeoffs between certainty and longing.

Luke explains that souls revert to the age when they were happiest, revealing that a family and future could have shaped Larry and Joan differently. Joan confides in Karen as they wander among Eternity booths, while Luke and Larry bond in their own way. The group weighs different paths through the Archives and information displays.

Unable to decide, Joan chooses to spend her Eternity with Karen, her recently deceased friend. Luke worries she may be pulled into the Void, while Larry searches for another option that could still keep them together. The moment marks a turning point in her understanding of happiness.

Larry realizes Joan favored her long-ago happiness and, to protect her, tells her to spend Eternity with Luke so she can be truly happy. Anna observes the exchange and quietly supports the branching paths of the couples. This choice sets the stage for what comes next.

Anna reveals she never picked an Eternity herself, admitting that helping others has given her purpose. She thanks Larry for helping her rediscover that sense of meaning. The moment adds a bittersweet note to the evolving friendships around the Junction.

In the Junction, Joan hides with Ryan and Anna to find Larry. They discover Larry remains at the Junction, bartending as if Luke's former life, choosing to forgo a separate eternity. Joan and Larry reunite and enter a discontinued Eternity reminiscent of their earthly life, closing their long, intertwined story.
