Escape the Field (2022) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

In the final moments of "Escape the Field," only Sam and Tyler remain alive, having survived the brutal ordeal in the cornfield. Just as Tyler is attacked and killed by the wild man, Sam manages to escape and fights back by setting him on fire, but she is also wounded and collapses unconscious. The story then quickly shifts to a much larger context when agents in hazmat suits arrive to take her away, and a mysterious voice announces the beginning of "Phase 2" and the activation of "Zone 4." This indicates that the entire event was part of a broader, ongoing experiment—more than just a random survival game. The implication is that Sam is not an isolated victim but one of numerous test subjects being moved into the next phase of this shadowy operation. The film leaves the audience with the unsettling idea that the survivors are just pieces in a much larger and more complex plan, one that extends beyond the single, horrifying trial in the cornfield. The ending hints at a vast, secretive project involving testing and manipulation, with the survivors serving as just the beginning of a far-reaching series of experiments whose true purpose remains largely unknown.
