In 1857, Gustave Flaubert finds himself on trial, accused of obscenity and moral offenses due to his novel, Madame Bovary. The film interweaves the courtroom drama with a retelling of Emma’s story, exploring her desires and disappointments. As the prosecution and defense present their arguments, the trial serves as a reflection on the societal constraints placed upon women during that era, raising questions about Flaubert's fate and the broader implications for women's lives.
