Elmer, a top batter from Gentryville, stays for his love Nellie. Cubs scout Mr. Wade offers him a contract, which he accepts after Nellie rebuffs him. In Chicago Nellie sees him with Evelyn and leaves. Healy takes him to a gambling den where he unwittingly incurs a $5,000 debt. In debt, Elmer disappears as the Cubs head into the World Series decider.
