DragonHeart: A New Beginning

A year before his death, Sir Bowen visits the cave of his long-dead dragon friend Draco and finds an egg. He entrusts the egg to Brother Gilbert's monastery, hoping it will be protected. The monks vow to shield the hatchling from a foretold trouble until the comet passes.

Over the next twenty years, Friar Peter protects and teaches the hatchling until the burden falls on a young, grumpy monk named Mansel. The dragon remains hidden within the monastery as he grows. The long care forms the foundation for the later defense of the realm.

Geoff, an orphaned stable boy at the monastery, longs to be a knight. Meanwhile, Osric becomes the king's chief adviser and secretly plots to corrupt the Old Code, punishing those who resist. He introduces tunics color-coded by station to enforce social order.

Two Chinese visitors, Master Kwan and his son from Hebei, arrive asking Friar Peter about dragons. They claim the stars predict a new dragon and a comet in eight days, and they aim to prevent the prophecy by confirming the dragon's pure heart.

Geoff tricks Mansel into hard labor and discovers Drake, a young dragon hiding in the monastery. At first afraid, Geoff learns Drake is just as frightened and they forge a fast bond. The next day, Friar Peter dies suddenly, and Drake goes outside for the first time.

Four days before the comet, Master Kwan and Lian learn about Drake's existence. Geoff is surprised by the reveal that the monastery's visitor is actually Lian, the Chinese empress, in disguise. When Geoff is threatened by knights for not wearing tunics, Drake takes his first flight to rescue him, revealing the dragon to the kingdom.

Osric declares Geoff and Drake the kingdom's protectors against the invading Teregoths and takes Geoff under his wing. He uses the duo to demonstrate the Old Code’s power while maneuvering behind the scenes. The arrangement cements Osric’s grip on royal and military authority.

After testing Drake’s purity, Master Kwan begins teaching him to use his dragon gifts, including an ice breath that only a few dragons master. The training deepens Drake’s bond with Kwan and marks him as a potent protector of the realm. This sets the stage for the coming prophecy confrontation.

Lian reveals that a rogue dragon named Griffin betrayed the dragon code, leading a rebellion. Virtuous dragons captured him and placed his heart in an amulet. Fearing Griffins and Eastern dragons, the emperor ordered all dragons killed, making Drake the world’s last dragon.

Kwan and Lian are captured and jailed as the prophesied day arrives. Osric takes Geoff and Drake to battle a group of Teregoths at a border house, faking a fatal blow and attempting to claim half Drake’s heart. Geoff sees through the deception and stops Drake, sparing him from betraying the realm.

Geoff and Drake stage an escape; Kwan, Lian, and Mansel escape the dungeon, heal the king, and confront Osric. Kwan perceives Osric’s true identity and orders the amulet burned, initiating Osric's exposure. Osric recovers and, in a last bid for power, throws a knife at Lian, but Kwan sacrifices himself and dies.

Osric removes the hidden dragon heart during the comet’s appearance, revealing himself as Griffin and explaining the prophecy pointed at him. Lian realizes the true threat was Osric all along. The dragon heart is the key to the dragon’s fate and the demonic plan.

Drake and Griffin engage in a fierce duel as the comet blazes. Drake masters his ice breath and freezes Griffin to death, ending the rogue dragon’s threat. A shard from Griffin’s fatal defeat pierces Geoff, killing him amid the climactic battle.

In a moment of sacrifice, Drake offers part of his own heart to revive Geoff, restoring the fallen stable boy. The Old Code is restored and honored once more. Lian resumes royal duties and Mansel takes guardianship of the scrolls, completing his path to a life of prayer.

With the realm's balance restored, Geoff and Drake become brothers, finally obtaining the family they always wanted. The dragon and the knight form a lasting bond, and the kingdom begins to heal as the comet fades.
