After a young boy dies of meningitis, village women accuse Napoko Diarrha of eating his soul, invoking a sexist tradition. Her husband, ashamed of her refusal to marry off their daughter, spreads a rumor that could cost her life. Facing trial by the elders, Diarrha flees to Ouagadougou. There her health wanes, but her daughter later tracks her down. Reunited, mother and daughter strive to escape the oppressive, male‑dominated society.
