The film dramatizes the 1938 crisis as Czechoslovak President Edvard Beneš (Jiří Pleskot) and ordinary citizens struggle to preserve the nation’s independence against Nazi Germany. After Sudeten leader Konrad Henlein meets Hitler, German orders intensified pressure. Sudeten German Party issues eight untenable demands, pushing Beneš toward reluctant negotiations while Henlein and Nazis resort to violence to force a breakup.
