Rick (Rutger Hauer), a disillusioned sailor turned hard‑drinking womaniser, returns after six months at sea to discover his beloved wife (Corrigan) has vanished, living as a junkie prostitute. Drowning his despair in alcohol and cheap thrills, he rebuffs the advances of his wife’s close friend (Dagmar Lassander) after a brief encounter. She seeks revenge by exploiting a fantasy woman of his, but her scheme collapses with tragic consequences.
