An animated fantasy anthology film presents six interwoven stories inspired by Pu Songling’s “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.” Each tale revolves around the mysterious Lanruo Temple, an ancient ruin steeped in supernatural lore and haunted by spirits. Featuring classic stories such as “Taoist from Laoshan Mountain,” “Princess Lotus,” “Nie Xiaoqian,” “The Painted Skin,” and “The Daughter of Magistrate Lu,” the anthology explores themes of love, death, and morality. The film uniquely blends six distinct animation styles, from felt-textured visuals to aesthetics reminiscent of Song dynasty paintings, creating a rich and diverse cinematic experience.
