Crater

Caleb's father, Michael Channing, dies in a mining accident on the Moon. In his last will, Michael orders Caleb to be sent to Omega since Caleb is under 18. The mining system requires 20 years of service before leaving, leaving Caleb with only three days before departure.

Caleb enlists his best friend Dylan and their friends Borney and Marcus to venture to the crater. Dylan then recruits Addison Weaver, the daughter of a renowned Earth scientist, to help provide passcodes for leaving the base. Addison agrees only if she can come along.

The five climb into a rover and drive across the Moon's surface toward the crater. Along the way they reveal personal fears and histories: Borney's neuroses from his older brother, Marcus's heart condition, and Dylan's fear of abandonment by his father.

During a game using oxygen canisters as 'launch', Borney nearly gets sent into space. The others manage to pull him back, saving his life. The accident leaves them with less oxygen and a heightened sense of danger.

They locate an outpost that turns out to be a model home built for Moon colonization. They salvage oxygen and food and spend the night there. Addison shares stories about Earth history and her fear of humanity losing it to time, including her parents' divorce and moving to Omega with her younger brother Charlie.

The next day, the rover's battery dies and the group is forced to continue toward the crater after Addison triggers an emergency call button. They push on despite the setback, determined to reach their destination.

They arrive at the crater and discover a giant glowing cube that serves as the entrance to an underground bunker. Inside is a pond and a tree, and the bunker simulates Earth’s surface. They uncover a hidden crevice containing Caleb's mother's ashes and a photo of his parents.

Caleb realizes his father killed himself to reach Omega, which makes him want to stay. Dylan urges him to go, arguing that Caleb must fulfill his father's dream. The tension mounts as the danger around them grows.

Marcus collapses from his heart condition, forcing the kids to hurry back to the rover. A meteor storm strikes, cracking Dylan's visor and breaking the front window, forcing them to continue wearing their spacesuits. Oxygen runs low as they struggle to survive.

Rescuers arrive as their oxygen dwindles, allowing the kids to be saved from the Moon. Caleb then awakens to discover that he has already been transported to Omega, leaving him devastated at not saying goodbye to his friends.

Caleb is given a recording device that will let him hear messages from his friends once a year during his 75-year journey to Omega. He learns that his friends are safe and forging lives back on Earth and in Omega. The device becomes a lifeline linking their memories across vast distances.

Over the years, Caleb's friends' actions on Earth shape the miners' world. Marcus starts a baseball team; Addison leads a strike to improve miners' contracts; the movement succeeds with Borney becoming lead administrator. Their efforts keep Caleb connected to a cause larger than themselves.

Dylan and Addison marry and have children, continuing life on Earth while remaining linked to Caleb through annual messages. Their family creates a lasting legacy tied to both the Moon's past and the miners' future.

Later, Caleb comes across Charlie, Addison's younger brother, and the two share stories across the years. The moment reinforces the thread that connects all the participants through time and space.
