Color of the Night

New York psychologist Dr. Bill Capa watches his unstable patient Michelle jump from his office window, a brutal moment that haunts him thereafter. The bloody scene, described as Michelle wearing a bright green dress, triggers a deep depression in Bill. He also develops psychosomatic color blindness, losing the ability to see the color red.

Bill travels to Los Angeles to escape the memories of New York and begins staying with Dr. Bob Moore. Bob invites him to sit in on a group therapy session, offering him a sense of purpose. The visit marks the beginning of a new, dangerous chapter when Bob is murdered.

During the visit, Bob is violently murdered in his office, plunging Bill into a puzzling and dangerous mystery. The killing shatters the therapy group’s calm and forces Bill to question everyone around him. The case quickly becomes personal for Bill as he becomes a target of suspicion and danger.

Lt. Hector Martinez treats the therapy group as prime suspects in Bob's murder, keeping Bill under scrutiny. The suspicion turns a living arrangement into a web of distrust, with each patient potentially involved in the crime. Bill must navigate pressure from the police while trying to stay safe.

Bill remains living in Bob's house and begins an affair with Rose, a mysterious woman who appears and disappears. This liaison complicates already fragile relationships within the therapy group and blurs the lines between patient and confidant. The growing tension raises the stakes for Bill's own safety.

Bill steps into the role of group leader, continuing therapy with Clark, Sondra, Buck, Casey, and Richie. The dynamics of the group become increasingly unstable as secrets spill into the sessions. The power shift makes Bill a more obvious target for the killer.

Casey, a member of the therapy group who paints sado-masochistic images, is murdered, escalating the sense of danger around Bill. The killings intensify scrutiny on Bill and the other patients. The mystery deepens as the pattern of murders appears connected to Rose.

Dale abducts Rose and arrives to kill Bill and Martinez with a nail gun, triggering a tense confrontation. Bill and Martinez race to rescue Rose and stop the killer, turning the final act into a high-stakes showdown. The danger culminates in a violent struggle inside the residence.

Rose frees herself, corners and shoots Dale, ending his murderous spree. The killer's demise removes the immediate threat to Bill and Martinez. Rose's act of killing Dale also marks a grim turning point in her own struggle with trauma.

Deeply traumatized, Rose contemplates suicide, but Bill persuades her to live and seek help. The couple share a kiss, and in that moment Bill regains the ability to see the color red, symbolizing healing and a restored sense of perception. The film closes on a note of fragile hope for both of them.
