Coast to Coast

Madie Levrington is forcibly committed to a New York mental institution by her husband, Benjamin, who hopes to prevent a divorce and keep her wealth. She remains determined to escape and reclaim her autonomy, setting the stage for a dangerous bid for freedom.

Madie manages to escape the institution and secretly hides aboard a livestock truck. The driver, Charles Callahan, overhears on his CB radio that there is a reward for her return, which immediately catches his interest. He doesn’t realize she’s aboard until later.

Callahan is under crushing debt and hunted by a repo man, which makes him vulnerable to risky schemes. Behind Madie’s flight, he meets the people who want her and accepts part of the reward money from their leader. The arrangement layers tension over who is using whom.

As they journey, Callahan reluctantly teaches Madie to drive the truck, a process that becomes frantic after he is knocked into the air by a bull. She begins to gain control, mixing fear with a growing sense of independence. The lesson unfolds in the movement of the road.

Madie discovers the money Callahan received and demands explanations for his actions. He claims he took it unwillingly, but she does not believe him and elects to drive off without him. The trust between them fractures as they continue their chaotic escape.

Callahan hitches a ride on the back of a motorcycle with an older man to track the moving truck. They catch up and locate it, forcing Callahan to leap onto the moving vehicle to rejoin Madie. He ends up in a precarious position on the truck’s back.

Madie drives the truck all the way back to her husband Benjamin’s house, where a party is underway in the backyard. Refusing to stop, she wreaks havoc, running over guests and objects, and finally blasting the truck through the house itself. The surreal disruption underscores her reclaiming power.

After the mayhem, Benjamin lunges to choke Madie. Callahan leaps from the trailer, tackles Benjamin to the canvas, and prevents the attack, saving Madie from harm. The moment cements their uneasy alliance as danger recedes.

In the aftermath, Madie fingers Benjamin as the truck’s driver, tipping the scales of suspicion back toward him. She and Callahan make a break for freedom and encounter the repo man one more time, who finally concedes the truck to Callahan. The chase ends with a reluctant handover.

Madie and Callahan drive away together in the truck, leaving the repo man defeated and uncertain. The partnership formed in chaos promises a new, precarious future as they vanish down the road.
