During the assembly, a factory worker suffers a hand injury when the hood unexpectedly slams down. This incident marks the beginning of a series of tragic events linked to the Plymouth Fury.

Tragedy strikes when another factory worker who tests the car later turns up dead. This death sets the ominous tone for the car's influence over those who come into contact with it.

Fast forward to September 16, 1978, in Northern California, where we meet Arnie Cunningham, a timid teenager who struggles to assert himself against the challenges of high school life. His weekends are spent in Scrabble matches with his overprotective parents.

Arnie becomes the target of relentless bullying in shop class, particularly from Buddy Repperton. After a humiliating episode where Buddy stomps on his lunch and breaks his glasses, Arnie’s confidence is severely shaken.

On his way home, Arnie spots a used Plymouth Fury with a 'SOLD' sign, intrigued by its remnants. He learns the car's name is Christine and feels an inexplicable pull toward it, drawn into its sinister allure.

Despite his parents' disapproval, Arnie buys Christine from the eccentric George LeBay, who shares the tragic story of his deceased brother. Arnie's determination to keep the car grows stronger, setting the stage for his obsession.
