Seema Ranjan is a young woman in Mumbai who finds herself under constant pressure from her father to marry a military officer. He has already arranged five such matches, and Seema continually slips away from each one, determined to choose her own path. When a sixth arrangement is set in motion, she escapes to Goa to live with her uncle Chandrakant “Chiku” Ranjan, who hopes she’ll find love with a civilian instead of a life in uniform.

In Goa, three friends—Siddharth Kashyap (Sid) [Farooq Shaikh], Jai [Ravi Baswani], and Omkar “Omi” Sharma [Rakesh Bedi]—share a rented apartment and drift between a café owned by Joseph Furtado and the local social circle. They owe a substantial debt to Joseph and his partner Josephine, which pushes them into a series of comic schemes as they try to win Seema’s affections and earn quick money. Seema, meanwhile, becomes a puzzle for the trio as they bumble their way toward romance, each misstep fueling the next round of misunderstandings.

One day, Omi spots Seema walking her dog and is immediately drawn to her. He tries to impress her with poetry, but Seema mistakes him for a dog trainer and escorts him into her home. Omi misreads her interest and returns home with a tall tale of their supposed romance. He tells his friends a different story, self-assured that Seema is smitten. Jai, eager to prove himself, arrives with a flashy pretense of being a renowned filmmaker, only to be thwarted by Seema’s grandmother, Dadima [Leela Mishra], who dispenses sharp, filmi-style discipline. Despite these early fails, the trio persists in their attempts to win Seema, while Sid remains relatively cautious about pursuing a serious relationship.

The dynamic shifts when Sid and Seema finally meet properly and discover a genuine connection. They begin to date and get along well, much to the consternation of Jai and Omi, who fear losing their chance with Seema. The friends marshal their jealousy into schemes to break them apart, each trying to convince Sid that Seema isn’t right for him. Sid’s displays of affection eventually win Seema over, but the trio’s meddling continues to complicate their budding romance.

Things take another turn as Joseph and Josephine grow wary of the three debt-ridden roommates. Jai and Omi craft a series of lies to undermine the couple, while Sid and Seema’s bond deepens. Yet the web of deception spirals out of control: Sid and Seema breakup briefly under the strain, leaving Sid hurt and searching for a way back. In a moments-later twist, Jai and Omi stumble upon a bottle of poison in Sid’s drawer, mistaking it for proof of Sid’s suicide—an entirely false alarm that underscores how dangerous their meddling has become.

Realizing the mess they’ve created, Jai and Omi redouble their efforts to repair the situation, but the resolution comes not from their scheming but from a grandmother’s well-meaning intervention. She suggests a melodramatic, filmi “kidnapping” ruse to test Seema’s resolve, and Sid rises to the challenge by playing the hero and rescuing Seema from the staged kidnappers. The stunt rekindles their romance, and Seema’s family begins to see a path forward for the couple.

As the tension between Seema and her father and uncle escalates, Sid confronts the family with honesty and a unifying idea. He argues that a true military officer is, at heart, once a civilian, and his plea resonates with the two brothers who hold the family’s approval in their hands. In a moment of stubborn but hopeful reconciliation, the brothers are moved, and they give their blessing for Sid and Seema to marry.

In the end, the film pivots on a simple, enduring truth: love can bridge the gap between duty and desire, and with a little care, a family’s approval can be earned. Sid and Seema’s union stands as a testament to perseverance, forgiveness, and the belief that two people who truly connect deserve a chance to be together, no matter the obstacles in their path.
