Mihika Mukherjee, a successful investment banker in Mumbai, is determined to reach Delhi to spend time with her husband Lt. Col. Vikram Singh Rana and celebrate her upcoming birthday, even as the weekend tightens around her. When a late office pull and a brutal Friday traffic jam push her plans into a rush, she misses the big flight she had hoped would carry her to Delhi in time. Her urgency only grows as a rally and blocked roads complicate every route, and by the time her driver diverts through a different path, the dream of a quiet birthday is slipping away.

At the airport she encounters Manu Gupta, a down-to-earth man whose simplicity clashes with Mihika’s polished, cosmopolitan aura. Mihika’s initial hostility toward Manu—the clash between their worlds—gives way to a reluctant partnership as both wind up on the same low-cost flight to Delhi. A technical snag at the Delhi airport shunts the plane to Jaipur, and Mihika quickly realizes she’s stranded far from her destination. To complicate matters, the path home becomes a maze: a sleepy cab driver, a frustrated passenger, and a string of misfortunes that leave Mihika without a plan or a working phone.

Forced to improvise, the pair abandon the malfunctioning car and hop a truck with driver Dharampal to a rural eatery for shelter and sustenance while they await a repair that seems increasingly distant. Overnight in the countryside, Mihika experiences a Rajasthan sunrise that shifts her perspective, and a pair of small acts—Mihika’s apology to Manu and their easy camaraderie—begin to soften their initial friction. They decide to press on, hitching a camel buggy and later a tempo to reach the nearest railway station. Mihika, eager to salvage her trip, purchases a First Class ticket, only to discover her bag is torn and her money scattered. Manu, ever practical, helps her board the train, even as their circumstances draw the attention of the train ticket examiner, the notorious K. C. Pant. Pant, sensing something amiss, confronts the duo, and a confrontation with the inspector Surendra Mishra soon follows, leading to Mihika and Manu being tossed off the train and handed over to local police.

The ensuing police encounter spirals into a chaotic chase as thieves try to exploit the moment, and Mihika and Manu find themselves stranded in a rugged stretch of the countryside. They press on toward Jhunjunu, taking shelter in a seedy hotel, where Mihika phones Vikram and begs him to fetch her. That night, a rowdy entertainment program in the hotel basement draws the town’s rough crowd into disorder, triggering a riot and a curfew. Vikram’s entry into Jhunjunu is blocked at first, but flashed credentials and determination allow him to reach Mihika and, with Manu in tow, begin the journey back toward Delhi. The trio’s escape to Chandni Chowk marks a turning point as Vikram drops Manu off and returns for Mihika, and Mihika’s perspective shifts from frustration to a tempered optimism.

On the ride home, Mihika’s mood softens as she recognizes Manu’s unflagging joie de vivre and his resilience in the face of hardship. She even contemplates inviting him to her birthday party, only to discover that he gave her a wrong number. Her search leads her to Manu’s home in Chandni Chowk, where she learns a deeper layer of his life: his wife Vibha has been in a coma for two years. This revelation casts Manu’s sunny philosophy in a new, poignant light, revealing the quiet cost of his optimism and how he channels his sorrow into a mission to spread joy to others.

Ultimately, Mihika and Vikram’s reunion becomes a tempered celebration of patience and connection, tempered by the lessons Mihika learns from Manu’s spirit and from the quiet sacrifice of those who carry heavy private burdens. The misadventures along the way—missed flights, misdirection, and miscommunications—grow into a broader reflection on love, resilience, and the strength it takes to navigate life’s unpredictable detours.
