Cattle Call follows the three male protagonists as they stage a fake casting call in Hollywood for a fictional indie film titled Perfect for Me, hoping to meet women. Richie Rey, Thomas Ian Nicholas is looking for a relationship, while Sherman and Glenn Dale, Diedrich Bader are more interested in casual encounters. After going on dates with the girls, they eventually choose three women to be in their “film”: Marina Dell, Jenny Mollen; Laurel Canyon, Nicole Eggert; and Nikita, Chelsea Handler.
When Marina checks Richie’s computer to find a dating site called Perfect for Me, he feels guilty and confesses that the whole thing was staged to lure women. She storms out of his house and meets up with the other two girls at the empty “casting studio.” It turns out that one of the other women isn’t really an actress at all and is investigating the three guys after complaints on the internet that the casting was a scam.
The women demand a first read-through of the “script” (a translation of an old foreign-language film they had seen) and declare that they want to make the script sexier and require the producers to participate in a lot of sex to practice. The women set up a hotel room with cameras and film Sherman and Glenn preparing to have sex with them — Richie refuses and leaves. They then introduce two masculine women with whips and sex toys, and police burst in and arrest Sherman and Glenn.
After a night in jail, the pair face 10–15 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. Judge Mendel — played by Paul Mazursky — allows 24 hours for the defense to prepare. Richie’s inspiration from a reality show called Real Cops leads him to realize he can turn the footage into a real film. He rushes to the courthouse the next morning just as a verdict is announced; the judge admits the footage as evidence and rules Sherman and Glenn not guilty.
In the final moments before the credits, Richie apologizes to Marina again, and when her ex-boyfriend leaves, she stays and they share a kiss. Three quick closing scenes follow: Nikita runs a casting call for a new project called Fresh Meat; Glenn works behind the camera as a director on a Spanish-speaking set; and Sherman reveals to Richie that he is a sex addict. Richie jokes that Sherman might start a therapy group to meet other female sex addicts, and after a pause Sherman adds, “That’s a great idea.”
That’s a great idea.
