Caltiki, the Immortal Monster

A delirious archaeologist stumbles into the group's camp without his partner. His behavior grows increasingly irrational and he soon requires hospitalization. The remaining group resolves to press on and explore the nearby cave to understand what happened.

The group reaches the cave and discovers a deep pool and a large statue of the Mayan goddess Caltiki. They sense a ritualistic past tied to human sacrifices, adding a chilling atmosphere to their expedition.

They decide to send one of their own down into the pool to look for artifacts. He descends and finds skeletons clad in gold jewelry at the bottom, suggesting a hidden cache of treasure.

The diver surfaces with as much gold as he can carry. Despite warnings, he insists on descending again, hoping to uncover more treasure for the group.

As the second descent continues, the cable moves erratically and he is pulled back to the surface. Back at the mouth of the pool, his flesh has dissolved into a decayed mass over his skeleton.

Moments after the rescue, the shapeless creature rises from the pool and attacks the crew. One member is briefly grabbed but is rescued, and the rest flee the cave as the threat begins to overwhelm the area.

A nearby tanker truck of gasoline is driven into the advancing mass by a scientist. The collision triggers a violent explosion that ignites and destroys the blob.

The team carries their injured colleague back to Mexico City for treatment. A small fragment of the blob remains on his arm, slowly digesting tissue.

Surgeons remove the fragment, which is revealed to be only moist scraps of flesh still attached to bone. Further experiments identify the creature as a unicellular bacterium that grows rapidly in the presence of radiation.

A comet emitting radiation, crossing Earth's path every 850 years, is on course toward our planet. At its closest approach, the remaining blob sample begins expanding and reproducing.

The extracted sample is moved to Dr. John Fielding's home, where it could be unleashed again if unchecked. Fielding is arrested as he pushes to have the government act on the danger.

Fielding escapes from custody and continues to advocate for urgent intervention against the multiplying blobs. His actions keep the threat in the public eye.

A colleague succeeds in convincing the authorities to sound an alarm, recognizing that the multiplying creatures will soon be beyond their control. The government begins coordinating a response plan.

The army arrives with flamethrowers and jeeps to confront the omnivorous blobs. Fielding and his family are cornered on a second-floor ledge, and the soldiers combat the creatures with fire.

Fielding acts just in time to reach his wife and child as the flames rage around the mansion. The firepower finally destroys the blobs, ending the immediate threat.
