Ugo Piazza is released from prison and immediately pressured by old associates who insist he stole 300,000 dollars during a handover. He adamantly denies the theft, even under coercion from The Americano's volatile right-hand man, Rocco. The disbelief extends to his girlfriend Nelly and the police commissario, who all doubt his innocence.

Piazza reconnects with his former godfather Don Vincenzo, now blind, and his loyal capo Chino. The Americano issues an ultimatum: return the money or resume work for him. Paranoia grows as Rocco intensifies his hunt for potential money couriers.

Piazza is sent on an exchange of $30,000 that takes place in a bowling alley. A mysterious assailant in a white scarf ambushes the deal, kills their client, and steals the brown leather bag containing the money. The theft destabilizes the fragile balance of loyalties around Piazza.

The Americano orders Rocco and Piazza to kill those responsible for the theft. When they reach the scene, the supposed culprits turn out to be Chino and Don Vincenzo. Piazza refuses to kill his former godfather; Rocco shoots Don Vincenzo, and Chino barely escapes.

The Americano beats Piazza for insubordination but spares him when Piazza suggests that Rocco and his crew orchestrated the theft. The Americano then retreats with his guards to a rural estate, bringing Piazza along to recalibrate his operation. The mood grows tense as loyalties are tested.

At the rural estate, Chino exacts revenge by ambushing and killing the Americano. Piazza survives and turns on the Americano's men, finishing them off. Chino dies from his injuries sustained in the ambush.

Piazza travels to an abandoned church off Milan and retrieves a blue bag containing the $300,000. The bag’s contents reveal that Piazza had stolen the money years earlier and orchestrated the entire set of events to get Americano killed. This revelation marks a turning point in his plan.

Piazza is picked up by police for driving with an expired license and is brought to the station for an interview. In the waiting room, he encounters Rocco, who is being questioned about the shootout. Rocco spots the bag and proposes a partnership, but Piazza declines and is released.

Piazza goes to Nelly's house carrying the money, intending to run away with her. Nelly is secretly involved with Luca, a member of Rocco's crew, and with another lover Lucato, planning to seize the fortune. The web of betrayals tightens around Piazza's plans.

Luca shoots Piazza upon arrival, but Piazza retaliates by killing Nelly with a single punch as he collapses. Rocco bursts in and kills Luca in a rage for betraying Piazza. Police arrive, dragging Rocco away from the bloodied scene.
