Mani, a graduate student, returns to her childhood reserve in northern Quebec, confronting a difficult past. Determined to reconnect with the community, she becomes entangled in a heated debate regarding a referendum on legalizing alcohol sales. Laura, a bootlegger, profits from the illegal alcohol trade with the backing of the band council and her partner, Raymond. Raymond harbors resentment towards Mani, blaming her for the death of his daughter in a past fire. The conflict divides the community, pitting opposing factions against each other as they strive for independence.
