Lalmohan Ganguly, alias Jatayu, Bibhu Bhattacharya − a loyal friend of Feluda − is invited to Mumbai to witness the filming of Bombaiyer Bombete, a movie adaptation of his own detective novel. The project is led by Pulak Ghoshal, Paran Banerjee serving as director, and Feluda Sabyasachi Chakraborty along with Topshe Parambrata Chatterjee join the journey to the city. The trio travels with a sense of curiosity, eager to see how Jatayu’s story will come to life on the big screen.
Before the departure, a mysterious film producer named Sanyal visits Jatayu and reveals his plan to make a film on the same novel. Jatayu warns him that the rights are already sold, and Sanyal leaves, only to return with a request: to hand a parcel to one of his associates at Mumbai’s airport. The arrangement seems simple, but it sets off a chain of unsettling events.
In Mumbai, a courier arrives to collect the parcel, Rajatabha Dutta. By a cruel misstep, Jatayu hands over the wrong brown parcel, one that contains a copy of his own novel rather than the film-related item. The intended recipient soon disappears into a towering building, where an elevator confrontation leads to murder—the killer silences the man and drops a cryptic scrap of paper as the scene ends. Back at a hotel, Feluda, Topshe, and Jatayu learn of the murder through Pulak Ghoshal’s reports and share the growing sense that something larger is at play.
An inspector named Patwardhan discusses a broader crime puzzle: a necklace once owned by Nana Sahib has been stolen from Nepal and may be slipping into India through a hidden network of smugglers. The trio pieces together clues, and a newspaper clipping at a beachside spot reveals Jatayu’s own description to the world, tying the detective author more closely to the dangerous conspiracy surrounding them.
As the investigation deepens, the production crew brings in Mr Gorey, Ashish Vidhyarthi, a film producer who also happens to be entwined with the mystery, and Victor Perumal, a martial artist from Japan who serves as the film’s stunt coordinator, played by Rajesh Sharma. Tensions rise as unidentified assailants strike at the trio, forcing Feluda to scrutinize every clue that crosses their path. A brown parcel is opened, revealing The Life Divine by Sri Aurobindo (Aurobindo Ghosh), a discovery that deepens the riddle surrounding the filmed narrative and the real danger lurking behind it.
The investigation uncovers a startling overlap between fiction and reality: the fictional Shivaji Castle—mentioned in Jatayu’s novel—turns out to be a real building that houses the nefarious Mr Gorey. The plot thickens as the team prepares for a train-based action sequence. During a high-takes moment, Sanyal appears again, alongside Nimmo, brandishing a gun and pressing Feluda to surrender the book. What he seeks is the missing treasure—the necklace that had been tucked inside the book.
Victor Perumal unexpectedly dives into the compartment to disrupt Nimmo’s leverage, causing Nimmo to drop the gun. Gorey’s true identity is revealed: Sanyal in disguise, a smuggler posing as a producer who used Jatayu’s parcel scheme to attempt a heist. Gorey’s arrest follows, and the team’s plan unfolds as Feluda’s guidance and quick thinking thwart the smugglers’ attempt to escape with the necklace. The danger subsides, and Pulak Ghoshal cheers Jatayu, signaling that filming will resume soon with a new producer on board and the detective story’s real-world mystery finally brought to a close.
