Black Coal, Thin Ice

In the icy expanses of Heilongjiang, the relentless chill seeps into every street and factory, turning the province into a landscape where shadows linger long after the sun sets. The omnipresent coal mines and dimly lit warehouses create a gritty backdrop that feels both oppressive and strangely intimate, a place where the past is never truly buried and the cold can mask any secret.

Zhang Zili is a once‑respected detective whose life has unraveled into a haze of liquor and regret after a disastrous investigation shattered his career.
