Pat Garrett’s pursuit ends with Billy the Kid’s death, but the outlaw’s exact fate remains unknown. Roy Rogers, a dead‑rising look‑alike, is taken for Billy and convinces Garrett to let him assume the outlaw’s identity. Though Billy had been a murderer, he championed homesteaders against powerful ranchers. Roy now fights for justice and the woman he loves, continuing the cause without the bloodshed.
