After being falsely imprisoned on a murder charge in Mexico, Billy the Kid escapes and rides to Corral City, Texas, where he reunites with his sidekick Fuzzy Jones. The town is under the sway of the Lazy A Ranch gang, whose men recognize Billy as the rider who robbed their express wagon. Wounded in an ambush, Billy is tended by local agent Mary Barton and, after turning over the loot, is appointed sheriff with Fuzzy as deputy. The gang hires gunfighter Gil Cooper, who turns out to be Billy’s brother. Together, Billy, Gil and Fuzzy drive the outlaws from town, after which Gil stays with Mary while Billy and Fuzzy ride off.
