Bhangra Paa Le

Set in Amritsar, the movie traces two generations through a family bound by rhythm, tradition, and the universal language of dance. Kaptaan Singh [Parmeet Sethi] is a former army soldier whose heart keeps beating for Bhangra. Even after losing a leg in war, he refuses to retreat from the stage or from his love for the dance. On the battlefield, he drums and dances to lift the spirits of his comrades, turning hardship into a rallying cadence. When he returns home, he discovers that Nimmo is about to marry someone else, creating a tension between duty and desire that will echo through the generations.

Back home, Nimmo [Shriya Pilgaonkar] is at the center of a family wedding, and Kaptaan had once wooed her kin by performing Bhangra in a wedding duel. Her brothers had urged him to seek Nimmo’s hand after the war, but his delayed return created a rift that made an arranged match seem inevitable. Yet Kaptaan’s persistence—his drumbeat in camp and his one-leg dance in Nimmo’s doorway—reawakens the family’s memories of their earlier bond, and the bond is rekindled when Nimmo herself enters with the drum, supporting him as they finally secure a path to marriage.

In the present, Jaggi Singh [Sunny Kaushal] dreams big as a Bhangra aspirant from Khalsa College, determined to take the art global. To him, Kaptaan is an idol who embodies a secret belief: the crown move of Bhangra, the “jhoomar,” can only be earned when love fuels the dancer’s steps. A fateful meeting at a wedding introduces Simi Kohli [Rukshar Dhillon], and the two instantly connect, only to discover they come from rival camps—the Khalsa and GNDU teams preparing for an international Bhangra showdown. Their chemistry is undeniable, but so is the rivalry between their schools, and it briefly pulls them apart.

Both teams push through the semi-finals, and Jaggi and Simi grow closer as the competition intensifies. Simi’s radiant performance in the qualifier wins her a place in the finals in London, while GNDU secures the ticket as well. The qualifier round erupts into a crowd clash between the rival squads, and Jaggi suffers a leg injury while stepping in to break up the fighting. Disheartened, he pulls away from Simi and his team, returning to his village where he reconnects with the local Bhangra group Pendu Club, led by his father. The group begins creating dance videos and uses crowdfunding to fund their London ascent, rekindling a sense of community and purpose.

As London beckons, GNDU and Pendu Club both navigate the heat of competition and the pull of home. Jaggi and Simi reunite and share moments near the London Eye, trading stories of their pasts: Jaggi learns about Kaptaan’s legacy and Nimmo’s enduring impact, while Simi opens up about her own father—someone who had abandoned her and whom she has recently encountered again in London. The emotional stakes rise as the final approaches.

In the climactic finale, Jaggi’s leg buckles just as the moment demands total precision. Simi hurries to the wings with a drum, lending her voice and rhythm to keep him moving. He confronts the last burst of energy with the same fiery spirit he has shown since the beginning, performing the jhoomar with renewed vigor. Pendu Club rides that energy to victory, and the movie circles back to a hopeful union: Jaggi and Simi finally choose to be together, their love a bridge between generations and a celebration of dance as destiny fulfilled. The story remains grounded in the warmth of family, the resilience of dreamers, and the unifying power of a shared beat.
