Gail’s agoraphobia traps her at home, where she escapes into romance novels; she lives with her Nan, out of the hospital, and together they break their isolation. Rob deepens his addiction to numb the grief of his girlfriend’s death, dreaming of holding her again. Mr. and Mrs. Gladwin confront a shift in their sixty‑year marriage as resentment creates a barrier that Mrs. Gladwin tries to erode with gestures.
