Best friends as boys, Ben‑Hur and Messala race chariots in Jerusalem. Messala leaves to study in Rome, returns as a Roman officer, and betrays Ben‑Hur—having his family imprisoned and sending him to the galley slaves. Ben‑Hur survives, returns to seek his family and confront his former friend, finding that the mysterious stranger whose grace embodies Christ is the key to redemption and the epic clash of loyalty, faith, and vengeance.
