On the lower St. Lawrence, the film shows a beluga whale hunt like a round‑up, with a corral and whale‑boys. In 1534 Jacques Cartier visited l’Île‑aux‑Coudres and saw Indigenous people catch belugas by driving a fence of saplings into mud at low tide. Islanders still use this ancient method, aided by trusting “sea‑pigs,” the tide and a touch of magic.
