What Happens at the End of Belén?

How Belén (2025) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

In the final act, the truth about Julieta’s “crime” finally bursts through the wall of lies built by the hospital, police and the courts. After a desperate raid on the sealed medical archive, Deza and her allies discover that the records contain no credible evidence of an illegal abortion; the whole case was a hastily fabricated cover‑up. The revelation coincides with a daring rescue attempt by a compassionate prison guard, but Julieta chooses to stay in prison, trusting that the public outcry she has sparked will force the system to answer.

Under mounting pressure from nationwide protests, a national public defender steps in and schedules a new hearing. In the courtroom Deza dismantles the prosecution’s narrative, exposing contradictions in the doctors’ testimonies, the police report and the judge’s own prejudiced statements. With the fabricated evidence exposed, the judge has no choice but to overturn the conviction, and Julieta is finally released.

The film closes with Julieta’s emotional reunion with her mother and with Deza’s family, who have stood by her despite threats and intimidation. Her freedom becomes a catalyst for sweeping reforms of Argentina’s abortion legislation, and the movement that grew around her case continues, now organized as a lasting network defending women’s autonomy. Julieta’s vindication is both a personal salvation and a symbolic victory for countless women whose bodies have been controlled by a patriarchal system, suggesting that the battle for reproductive rights will carry on long after the credits roll.
