At Prescott Academy, young girls, including Number 83, are trained to become elite assassins. They are instilled with the strict rule of 'no attachments,' fostering a competitive atmosphere among them.

Despite excelling in her assignments, Number 83, played by Hailee Steinfeld, dreams of experiencing life beyond the confines of the academy. Her longing for normalcy puts her at odds with the teachings of her mentor, Hardman.

Hardman assigns the girls the critical mission to capture Victoria Knox, a dangerous arms dealer. The assignment takes them to Chechnya, where they must employ their training in a high-stakes undercover operation.

During the mission in Chechnya, Number 83 successfully infiltrates Knox's circle and manages to escape with her onto an arriving jet. This unexpected turn reveals her capabilities as an assassin.

As chaos unfolds on the jet, Number 83 seizes the opportunity to leap into a river below. This bold escape leads her comrades to declare her Missing in Action, marking a pivotal shift in her life.

Once free, Number 83 decides to abandon her assassin identity and adopts a normal teenage life under the alias Megan Walsh. She immerses herself in teenage culture, exploring magazines and popular films.

Megan enrolls in high school and is welcomed by the Larson family, including Mrs. Larson and her children, Liz and Parker. As she navigates her new life, she quickly faces the challenges of adolescence.

On her first day, Megan attempts to impress her classmates with an unusual outfit, but it backfires and she faces ridicule. Thankfully, Liz helps her by providing a more suitable outfit.

As Megan settles in, she befriends Roger, a socially awkward student, while developing a crush on the charming Cash. This creates a love triangle with Roger harboring feelings for her.

When challenged by mean girls to demonstrate school spirit, Megan utilizes her assassin skills to earn a spot as the school mascot. This unexpected turn boosts her popularity but causes friction with Liz.

Just as Megan begins to enjoy her new life, she is confronted by a Prescott analyst who brings her back to Hardman. This unwelcome encounter reveals her struggles to balance her past with her current desires.

Encouraged by Mrs. Larson, Megan attends a party with Liz. The party introduces her to social dynamics and tensions, particularly as she starts to feel the presence of Number 84, now known as Heather.

At the homecoming dance, Megan realizes her feelings for Cash aren't what she expected and seeks Roger's forgiveness, only to discover he’s with Heather. This revelation sparks a fight between the girls.
