Mukesh's parents die leaving him an orphan. The family structure shifts as his grandfather seeks to place Mukesh with his unfriendly aunt Pammi, who is promised financial support. The loss triggers immediate adulthood pressures.

Grandfather entrusts care to Pammi and agrees to fund her care of Mukesh. Mukesh fears a life of neglect given Pammi's unfriendly nature. The family begins pooling resources for the kids.

Pammi refuses to give money for basic expenses. Mukesh struggles to study. Two sisters stay with grandfather as resources are pooled.

Mukesh wants to print fliers and advertise himself as a tuition teacher, but Pammi denies him funds. He solves this with quiet persistence and begins to seek opportunities elsewhere. The money problem persists.

Mukesh befriends Johnny, an undertaker, in Delhi's graveyard. They bond over chess, and Johnny reveals his dream to emigrate to Mauritius but lacks funds. The friendship reveals Mukesh's vulnerability and ambition.

At a kitty party, Mukesh meets Sarika, who pretends kindness and offers to give him apples from Shimla. She seduces him; he has sex with her on the couch and is paid. With the money, he prints home tuition posters to advertise.

Mukesh's grandfather passes away, and his two sisters are placed in a girls' home after the family loses support. Mukesh tries to keep the family together but the loss strengthens the peril of their situation.

Sarika introduces Mukesh to several desperate aunts who push him into paid sexual encounters. He tells himself the money will help his sisters' future and to eventually move them into their own house. The exploitation deepens.

Mukesh bribes the warden of the girls' home to leave his sisters alone, hoping to shield them from coercive work. He becomes increasingly entangled in crime as he tries to secure their safety.

During a sexual encounter with Sarika, her husband Ashok arrives, discovers the affair, and violently assaults Sarika in front of Mukesh. Following the confrontation, Mukesh is thrown out of the house.

Mukesh seeks shelter at Johnny's place but finds it abandoned as Johnny has left for Mauritius using the money. Sarika withdraws from him and refuses to pay, even threatening police. The betrayal deepens Mukesh's sense of isolation.

Mukesh's sisters run away from the orphanage due to ill-treatment and Mukesh contemplates offering sexual services to men to support them. He is beaten and assaulted by a gang during this desperate period.

Mukesh confronts Sarika; she denies owing him money, claiming she passed it to Johnny. He realizes Johnny had taken the money, not Sarika, who had asked him not to come anymore.

In a violent confrontation, Mukesh stabs Sarika to death in front of her husband and then flees to Johnny's empty house. He learns Johnny has already left for Mauritius with the money.

Mukesh's sister calls him to pick them from the railway station, but police corner him on a balcony. With no escape, he jumps to his death as officers close in.
