Seven months after his mother’s death, he returns to São Miguel in the Azores, confronting the sea and family land. He meets his 91‑year‑old grandaunt, hears talks of God and death, and swims in waters where French sailors Florence and Beru on the Balaou invite him to cross the Atlantic. The three parts offer eight lessons on accepting oblivion.
