After serving as a WWII fighter pilot, Belgian-born Edouard falls in love with an Indonesian woman, fathers a daughter, and moves to Australia unbeknownst to his family. Years later his wife has died and he raises their child alone. When his brother asks for help rescuing his failing wool‑processing business, Edouard returns home briefly to assist.
