As Good as It Gets

Melvin Udall, a best-selling romance novelist in New York, grapples with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) that affects his daily life. His peculiar habits include only using a bar of soap once and adhering to strict routines, demonstrating his struggles with control and order.

Melvin's neighbor, Simon Bishop, unexpectedly introduces his pet dog, Verdell, into Melvin's life when Simon falls victim to a brutal attack. With Simon hospitalized, Melvin reluctantly agrees to care for Verdell, marking the beginning of an unusual bond between them.

As Melvin adjusts to caring for Verdell, his routine faces further disruption when Carol Connelly, his only tolerable server at the diner, decides to relocate to support her asthmatic son. This abandonment leaves Melvin feeling unsettled and anxious, highlighting his struggle with change.
