It follows an Icelandic man whose slow descent into madness is sparked by his encounter with Dagný, the woman who triggers his breakdown. While confined in a psychiatric institution he meets a cast of eccentric patients—one who claims to have signed checks for Adolf Hitler, another convinced they are writing songs for the Beatles and transmitting them telepathically to the band.
