A photographer journeys into a remote forest seeking Boychuk, a man connected to the devastating Great Fire in Northern Ontario a century prior. Upon arrival, she discovers Boychuk has died, and encounters Tom and Charlie, elderly men living in the woods who survived the fire. They also meet Marie Desneige, a woman whose long institutionalization has strengthened her appreciation for life. As the photographer investigates, she uncovers that Boychuk was a painter whose art was entirely inspired by the tragic fire, revealing a compelling historical drama centered on the choices of men seeking freedom and facing mortality.
