Amityville: The Evil Escapes

Six priests, led by Father Manfred, enter the Amityville house on a rainy night to drive out the suspected evil. They begin the exorcism within the creaking rooms as thunder rumbles outside. This opening sequence establishes the house as a place of dark energy that will not surrender easily.

During the exorcism, Father Dennis Kibbler stays in an upstairs bedroom to bless the room. He notices a glowing brass floor lamp and, as he chants, a surge of energy travels from the outlet into the fixture. A demonic face appears in the bulb and Kibbler is knocked across the room, rendered unconscious.

A few days later, a real estate yard sale is held at the house, as the previous owners' items are cleared out. Father Manfred remains convinced the evil is gone, while curious locals linger among the relics. The sale marks a calm before a new storm that will return the object to unsuspecting hands.

At the yard sale, Helen Royce buys the lamp for $100 as a birthday gift for her sister Alice. She cuts her finger on the brass collar around the bulb but keeps the purchase, laughing off the minor wound. The lamp has found a new owner.

Helen's finger becomes infected and discolored as the day wears on. She ultimately dies of tetanus, leaving the lamp as the last link to the house's curse. The tragedy foreshadows the lamp's soon-to-be-return to another household.

One week later, the lamp arrives at Alice Leacock's three-story house in Dancott, California. Nancy Evans and her three children—Amanda, Brian, and Jessica—move in with Alice. The ominous package sets the stage for the new household's haunting.

Alice opens the package and the lamp's peculiar presence unsettles the family. Nancy is unimpressed by the lamp, while Jessica seems inexplicably drawn to it. The house's pets react strangely: parrot Fred becomes agitated and Pepper the cat scratches Amanda.

Soon the lamp begins to manipulate electrical devices around the house, performing uncanny feats. The parrot dies and is placed in the toaster, and the kitchen sink's garbage disposal activates seemingly on its own. The lamp asserts control, demonstrating that inanimate objects can be deadly.

Using its extension cord, the lamp murders Peggy, the housekeeper, in a silent, swift moment. The killing shows the object’s increasing dominance over the home and signals the danger ahead. The family remains largely unaware of the full scope of the threat.

The lamp drowns Jake, the plumber, in the sewage, and makes his van depart on its own, misdirecting investigators. The police visit the house but cannot locate Jake's body, complicating the investigation. The haunting begins to spill into the outside world as authorities probe unseen forces.

Jessica becomes enthralled by the lamp and starts to believe that her dead father Frank's spirit lives inside it. Her fixation deepens as the haunting intensifies, drawing the family toward a dangerous confrontation. The lamp's hold over Jessica becomes a key turning point in the house's terror.

Father Kibbler, staying with Father Manfred, receives a call from the lamp; smoke pours from the phone and the speaker melts. He travels to Dancott to investigate the artifact, hoping to end the curse. Meanwhile, the family braces for a climactic showdown.

With most of the family away, Jessica mind-controls and stabs Father Kibbler in the shoulder. The lamp's extension cord tries to halt the exorcism as the struggle escalates. The fate of the characters hangs in the balance as the ritual unfolds.

Alice lunges for the lamp, grabs it, and throws it out of a window, shattering it on the rocky shoreline below. The family believes their ordeal is over, but the danger is not completely extinguished. The destruction marks a dramatic, final act of resistance against the entity.

The camera lingers on the lamp's shattered remains, revealing that the evil within has now possessed Pepper, the family's cat.
