After a coup removes President Carlos Quintas of an American nation, he seeks refuge in London to head an exile government. A poet, he falls for Kate, who hides a secret and keeps distance. Hunted by a London assassin team hired by the generals, Carlos is surrounded by two Russians, a publisher, a Brit and allies, leaving him unsure whom to trust.
