Inventor Leo Bergert is a walking disaster; every venture fails, including his attempt to create a new fuel. Deeply in debt and abandoned by his fiancée and a wealthy aunt, he contemplates suicide and even hires a hitman. When his fortunes suddenly improve, he tries to cancel the hit, but reversing the contract proves far more difficult than ending his own life.
