All the Old Knives

Henry was manipulated into making Bill seem guilty and was used by Vick Wallinger, who had his own motives for hiding the real story. Vick’s goal was to use Henry as a pawn to cover up deeper corruption and to make Celia test her loyalty, even if it meant pushing her into dangerous situations.

In the climactic scene at the restaurant, Henry’s conversation with Celia unveils the truth: Henry never intended to harm her. His actions were part of a bigger plan to gather evidence and protect her from Ilyas Shushani, the terrorist mastermind. It is also clear that Celia left Henry because she thought he was involved in the hijacking, not because she no longer loved him. She believed Henry had betrayed her, leading her to marry and raise a family, trying to put the past behind her.

The final, tragic twist is that Celia, in her fear and pain, believed Henry was dangerous enough to kill her, and in her wounded state, she collaborated with the CIA’s plan to eliminate Henry. She shot him because she thought she was defending herself from a perceived threat—an act driven by her desperate attempt to stay alive and protect her family from the fallout of the dangerous truths uncovered.

At the end, Celia lives on with her secret, haunted by the knowledge that she was driven to kill someone she truly loved, under the shadow of a web of lies spun by the CIA and her own fears. The film leaves us with the haunting question of whether she can ever truly escape the consequences of her betrayal or if her act of defense was merely another tragic outcome of a deeply manipulative and dangerous game of espionage.
